How to wipe and rebuild

  • Hold F9 while booting to get the option to wipe the system
  • Chose re-install base version (wipes all data!)
  • Re-boot
  • Settings -> Add/Remove Software
    • Accept all updates
  • Re-add IM accounts
    • AIM
    • ICQ
    • Hotmail
    • Yahoo
    • (no need to add Sametime)
  • Configure Pidgin to display the way I like
    • turn off tabbed windows
    • Change sound method to Command "play %s"
    • Log all IM and chats
    • Auto-away after 30 minutes
  • Set up Skype account info
  • Configure Web browser
    • home page -> Google
    • downloads directory: /home/user/Downloads (created from the dialog)
    • don't warn when closing multiple tabs
    • import bookmarks (get from FILES after setting up networking (see below))
  • Connect to FILES
  • Set up connection to Google docs
  • Add home network to wireless networks
  • Set up Mail
    • Configure .Mac connection
    • Arrange layout of window and columns for readability on the small screen
    • download and install Lightning
    • download and install Provider for Google Calendar
    • connect to Google Calendar: Home, Work, Team
    • set up address book
      • Export addresses (from mac) as vCard
      • use downloaded version of (http://labs.brotherli.ch/vcfconvert/) to convert to ldif
      • import ldif file into Thunderbird address book
      • move addresses into correct category
  • copy my writing back onto it
    • This time stored it on the SDHC card.
